Major Hamilton Highway upgrades deliver smoother journeys

Reconstruction works on key sections of the Hamilton Highway are underway as part of Victoria’s $976 million Better Roads Blitz maintenance program.

The Allan Government has commenced major Hamilton Highway upgrades, with rehabilitation works now underway on a three-kilometre section of road in Berrybank between Foxhow Road and Doyles Road.

The project forms part of the $976 million Better Roads Blitz, one of Victoria’s largest road maintenance programs.

The works will completely rebuild the affected stretch of road to repair surface damage, strengthen the pavement and extend the road’s lifespan.

Once complete, the upgrades will improve safety, reliability and travel comfort for freight operators, farmers and regional drivers alike.

Supporting regional connectivity and freight efficiency

Minister for Roads and Road Safety Melissa Horne says the project is vital for regional communities and industries.

“Whether it’s travelling to school, work or taking produce to market, it’s vital we have a reliable and efficient road network,” Horne says. “That’s why we are making record investments to deliver smoother journeys.”

The Hamilton Highway is a critical transport corridor connecting regional communities and supporting freight movement across Victoria’s southwest. Additional rehabilitation works are planned for the Moyne Shire, including two projects along the Princes Highway West at Port Fairy and Panmure.

Horne says the broader program is focused on areas with the greatest road wear.

“We’re investing in maintaining our regional roads across the state, including delivering these upgrades on the Hamilton Highway,” she says.

Record investment in Victoria’s road network

This year’s Better Roads Blitz targets high-traffic corridors and busy freight routes to improve connectivity and resilience. Crews are already working across hundreds of projects under the $976 million program, upgrading priority roads used daily by regional communities, freight operators and agricultural producers.

More works will start along the Hamilton Highway soon, including a major 3.5-kilometre rehabilitation project at Darlington.

Member for Western Victoria Jacinta Ermacora says the project will deliver long-term benefits for local industries.

“These crucial works will ensure we can continue to maintain this key freight and farming route and get locals where they need to go,” Ermacora says.
