New Zealand based logistics and transport company Mainfreight has officially opened a new air and perishables facility at Melbourne Airport.
The growing Australasian operator is now operating from the new 24/7 facility at the major airport, with the site located within the airport precinct off Airport Drive and close to major airfreight terminals.
The site spans over 11,500sqm of warehouse and office space to support more efficient handling of time-sensitive and temperature-controlled freight.
“Handling over 25 million kilograms of freight each year, the new branch marks a significant step forward in supporting Mainfreight’s ongoing growth and increasing its operational capacity,” Mainfreight says.
“The layout of the facility has been designed to simplify the movement of goods from arrival through to departure.
“Dedicated loading and unloading areas, electric roller systems for airline units, and sunken docks help reduce congestion and handling delays.
“With space for refrigerated containers and access for road trains, the site allows for more direct and efficient transfers between transport modes.”
