Lumen Australia opens E-lab

Lumen strengthens support for the Australian market with the commissioning of an environmental lab at its Victorian facility

July 27, 2011

Automotive parts supplier Lumen has strengthened its support for the Australian market with the commissioning of an environmental lab at its Victorian facility in Hallam.

The new E-lab will provide environmental testing services for its own and client products, including temperature, temperature cycling, humidity, vibration, salt spray and thermal shock testing.

Run by a product test engineer, Katerina Zoumbas, the lab’s thermal shock chamber causes severe shock loads at an accelerated pace when testing PCB solder joints, seals and connections.

Its temperature and humidity chamber exposes corrosion problems in a product, with the salt spray tester simulating a corrosive environment to cause degradation or short time failure. The chamber also assesses the long-term reliability of devices under high temperature conditions.

The vibration tester can perform random and sinusoidal vibration to determine whether a product is designed to survive harsh environments.
