Industry stalwart Phil Lovel will step down as the CEO of the Victorian Transport Association on July 1, marking an end to a 26 year career spent championing the cause of trucking.
Lovel made the announcement during the VTA’s State Conference today held in Creswick, saying it’s time to make room for renewal with Deputy CEO Neil Chambers taking over the role.
A replacement for Chambers’s current position, which he has held for nearly nine years, will begin soon.
“I’ve had a great career and I love what I do and I’ll still be around to help. I’m not going away straight away,” Lovel says.
“It’s a terrific changeover and it was my call and the timing was right as Neil has been there for nearly nine years and we have some great projects coming up.”
Chambers will continue to work closely with Lovel, who is still heavily involved with the various insurance groups associated with the VTA. Lovel, 65, has been with the VTA for 26 years and says it’s time to let young blood take over.
“Neil’s got all the skills needed to take us into the new century,” Lovel says.
“Our big job is to replace Neil and transfer all my history and all my cost indexes and fuel cost levy.”
