UD begins 2011 by switching to a striking new red and chrome logo
January 20, 2011
A move to a striking new red and chrome logo is the first update in a year of change for Japanese manufacturer UD Trucks, with new models also set to join the company’s range in 2011.
The new logo ends a re-branding programme that began in February 2010, when the company officially changed names from Nissan Diesel to UD Trucks.
UD Trucks communications manager Cris Gillespie says despite a belief the UD name stands for Ultimate Dependability, it is a contraction of Uniflow-Scavenging Diesel Engine, a supercharged unit introduced in 1955.
Gillespie says over time the UD ceased to be the name of the engine and instead became the name of the company, which is now part of the multi-national AB Volvo group.
“UD Trucks has now been fully integrated into the Volvo Group and an important part of this integration was to re-establish the brand with a global logo that moves away from the old Nissan Diesel branding,” Gillespie says.
“2011 will mark an exciting time for the UD Trucks brand in Australia with some significant new products and a renewed effort to offer some of the most environmentally friendly trucks on the market.”
