Logistics sector the backbone of Black Friday surge

Ofload CEO Geoffroy Henry says technological advancement in the transport and logistics sector has helped bolster Australia’s Black Friday shopping surge

The advent of American shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday has seen November overtake December as Australia’s peak shopping month.

The sale frenzy is no longer confined to just the final Friday of November. Instead, there are deals to be found across a variety of retail sectors throughout Australia, with the added strain of the surge in purchases absorbed by Australia’s transport and logistics sector.

Where Black Friday sales were initially restricted to retail, it has expanded to include other customer-driven areas including food and beverage purchasing, and fast-moving consumer goods.

The boom is expected to drive almost $7 billion of sales in just four days, with online platform Ofload reporting a 47 per cent increase when compared to last year’s event.

With the added demand of the sales increase adding more pressure to the transport and logistics sector, and customer expectation soaring due to the impact of the likes of Amazon and Temu on the market, Ofload CEO Geoffroy Henry says improving technology is the key to keeping up with increasing peak period surges.

“Logistics is the backbone of ‘Black November’,” Henry says. “Without smarter, tech-enabled solutions, supply chains couldn’t handle the immense volume and speed consumers now expect.

“’Black November’ highlights the crucial role of technology in logistics. By leveraging data and insights, Ofload is not only keeping the supply chain moving but also building a more sustainable future for the industry.”
