Logistics sector helping hold Victorian export boom

Recent data from the ABS has indicated Victoria has the strongest growing export trade of any Australian state

Victoria’s export trade is booming according to recently released data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics, with the state’s export value growing by over $2 billion in the past 12 months.

The export of goods has increased by almost 33 per cent since 2015 and have jumped a further 13.2 per cent over the past year, which represents the strongest growth of any Australian state.

The state’s exports have also increased a further 3.6 per cent in the June quarter – taking exports to a record $17.6 billion.

With the state’s freight and logistics arm helping prop up the extensive growth in the state’s export sector, Treasurer Tim Pallas says a strong export trade means a strong Victoria.

“We’re focused on growing trade and attracting investment because we know how important they are for local jobs and increased opportunity,” Pallas says.

“The strength of our export trade underlines the strength of our economy, which is supporting families, creating jobs and backing Victorian business.”

Victoria’s ocean trade is only set to be further strengthened by the recent addition of 29 hectares of land to the existing Port of Melbourne lease.
