FedEx expands Australasian shipping capacity
FedEx's new route will go between Melbourne, Auckland and Christchurch

Express transportation company FedEx has announced it is launching a new trans-Tasman service to continue expanding its international and Australian locations and services.

FedEx is launching a new service that will connect Christchurch, Auckland and Melbourne in a bid to improve transit times and allow businesses more time to prepare for shipments.

The new service will be operated with Airwork to provide greater connectivity for FedEx customers alongside shorter transit times and additional capacity to send shipments between Australia and New Zealand.

FedEx says the new service will run five times a week between Christchurch, Auckland and Melbourne and will add to five existing Sydney to Auckland flights each week.

The new route will allow for more access to transport e-commerce, healthcare, automotive, agricultural and other critical spare parts shipments, with air cargo tonnage expected to increase by 7.7 per cent in 2022.

"We’re excited to launch this new route as part of our continuous effort to bring better and stronger connections for customers, particularly in a corridor of such importance to bilateral trade and Australian and New Zealand businesses," FedEx Express Australasia vice president Peter Langley says.

"Australian exports to New Zealand grew more than US $8 billion during 2021. With this additional service, we’ll have ten weekly flights enhancing connections for Aussie and Kiwi businesses including those that are small and medium sized and looking to expand trade activity."

FedEx says key benefits coming from this new service includes more time for Melbourne customers to prepare shipments, improved transit times and more acceptance of dangerous goods capabilities.
