Logistics charity for disaster relief launches

Turbans 4 Australia’s new charity is already hitting the ground running in Lismore

It’s not the first time trucking operation Turbans 4 Australia has helped out the Australian community in a time of need.

But it’s latest venture, having officially launched its latest initiative in Green & Gold Charity Logistics, could be its best yet.

The Sydney based organisation is now becoming even more community-minded, with Sydney-based truckie Amar Singh finding more time to help those in need.

After already launching the Turbans 4 Australian charity banner in 2015, Singh has turned his attention to using two trucks to help flood relief in Lismore.

With only a 6-tonne, 10-palleter and an 8-tonne 12-palleter tautliner, major supporter Penske came to the rescue when it supplied a 14-tonne loaner to assist the flood relief efforts.

Green & Gold Charity Logistics was launched in late March, with Governor-General David Hurley and wife Linda Hurley on hand to cut the ribbon.

But it didn’t signal the start of Singh’s work with Grene & Gold – the logistics charity, which is the first of its kind in Australia, has already completed 15 trips from Sydney to Lismore in just three weeks.

It’s already resulted in a fuel bill nearing $7000, but Singh wouldn’t change a single aspect of the flood relief works.

“We’re asking the trucking industry to support us, particularly any fuel providers who can help us with fuel as that’s our biggest cost,” Singh says.

“We want to put that money towards buying food. One thing you must realise about us is that we actually buy stuff from Foodbank and Costco and other suppliers to give it up for free.

“Whether you pick up $2 worth of supplies from us, or $100, it’s all free. Unlike other organisations, you don’t need to be a member.”

Singh’s call to arms for the transport industry is all designed to help those struggling most with repeated flood events along Australia’s north-eastern coast.

It’s nothing new for Singh – since Turbans 4 Australia first launched in 2015, combining trucks and charity has always been his focus.

“Trucks are an integral part of the charity and what we do. Everyone’s happy to donate a carton of milk but no one understands how the carton of milk is going to go from Sydney to X, Y, Z,” Singh says.

“Green & Gold Charity Logistics is a new start and a new beginning, and we want to have trucks that are ready to serve when, and if, a disaster hits.”

But Singh’s charity ventures aren’t restricted to natural disaster relief; Turbans 4 Australia also held trucking’s first Harmony Day in Sydney recently.

Yet while the town of Lismore struggles to get back on its feet, this logistics charity is at the forefront of providing trucking assistance.
