Dutch global cold-logistics firm NewCold is investing $147 million to expand its Asia Pacific headquarters in Melbourne’s west and bolster Victoria’s food storage capacity.
NewCold Australia is to more than double the size of its state-of-the-art cold storage facility in Truganina, boosting storage capacity at the site to 225,000 pallets.
The expansion arrives with Victorian government blessing.
"Already boasting one of the world’s largest automated high-bay warehouses, the western suburbs facility will use the latest energy-efficient storage, cooling and distribution technology to automatically move and store products and ensure they are kept in optimal conditions," the pair states.

Stage one of the upgrade is underway and will expand NewCold’s multi-temperature and freezer warehouse with advanced features to store chilled and frozen goods.
"This is a great day for NewCold and the cold storage industry in Australia," NewCold founder and chief executive Bram Hage says.
"It is very pleasing to see our continued investment and growth in Australia – as we expand our global presence, we support local communities to foster economic growth and create high-quality employment opportunities."
The expanded facility, scheduled to be operational in 2022, will provide innovative storage solutions to NewCold’s global food supply chain customers including Simplot.
The announcement is a welcome fillip for a state that has taken a huge economic hit through multiple lockdowns.
"Food logistics is a highly innovative sector and operations like the expanded facility being built at Truganina are right at the head of technological advancements," industry support and recovery minister Martin Pakula says.
