Nippon Express inks deal on Melbourne super-site

The $30 million, 19,000sqm development consolidates two existing facilities

Japanese global logistics firm Nippon Express has agreed terms on a 19,000-square-metre purpose-built distribution centre in Melbourne’s Laverton North, consolidating existing sites at Tullamarine and Truganina.

The construction is set to be valued at $30 million, “and will accommodate forecast growth in the logistics consulting company’s operations over the coming years”, real estate broker Colliers International comments.

Nippon Express has signed a seven-year commitment for the new distribution centre.

The development will be fully drive-around with 13.7m internal clearance height and a 30m super awning.

The design of the facility will comprise an environmental sustainability focus, with solar PV systems, LED lighting, external motion sensor lighting, rainwater collection tanks, low VOC products, double-glazing and insulation.

The Boundary Estate facility is due for completion in May 2020, with Nippon securing a sub-lease while the new facility is being constructed.
