DHL seals Chemist Warehouse supply chain deal

Partnership to service more than 400 pharmacies

DHL seals Chemist Warehouse supply chain deal
Chemist Warehouse is one of Australia's largest pharmacy retailers

DHL Supply Chain has signed a deal with Chemist Warehouse to manage the supply chain for its fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) and front-of-store products.

The agreement covers 400 Chemist Warehouse stores and MyChemist pharmacies nationally.

DHL Supply Chain Australia & New Zealand CEO Saul Resnick says the partnership will streamline the supply chain by reducing the reliance on wholesalers.

"There are some immediate synergies that enable this to be a beneficial partnership from day one," Resnick says.

"Many of the FMCG and pharmaceutical manufacturers already store their products in our warehouses.

"This means we can go from a pre-wholesale environment direct to the Chemist Warehouse pharmacies, and ultimately take a movement out of the supply chain."

The deal strengthens DHL's presence in the pharmaceutical market.

It notes that in partnership with 31 customers, it already delivers more than 60 million units of medicines per year to the community pharmacy across Australia via its direct-to-market offering, which includes the Chemist Warehouse network.

"We already deliver to all of the Chemist Warehouse and MyChemist pharmacies on a regular and reliable basis, and have been doing so for many years now," Resnick says.

"We are excited to leverage this existing platform to gain some supply chain enhancements, which will ultimately provide a more sustainable network for Chemist Warehouse."

Chemist Warehouse director and co-founder Damien Gance says the company is looking forward to working with DHL to achieve efficiencies in its supply chain.

"We are excited about our new partnership with DHL, an expert in the field of global logistics … to support the rapid and dynamic growth of the Chemist Warehouse business."
