Toll to consolidate Gold Coast bases

Logistics giant will close bases at Molendinar and Burleigh Heads for new Arundel 'super site'

Toll Group will bring its three Gold Coast depots together into one operational hub at the suburb of Arundel, the company announced in a ground-breaking ceremony on Tuesday.

The company plans to start closing its existing sites at Molendinar, Arundel and Burleigh Heads, ultimately aiming to relocate to the larger 10,250 square metre facility in Arundel by July 2019.

Toll aims to have completed an internal fit-out of conveyor and sortation systems by the end of April 2019, bringing together multiple freight services which are normally separated due to their operational requirements.

Company managing director Michael Byrne says the new investment will set the blueprint for how Toll builds new integrated operations in Australia, as well as making the most of experiences generated at other facilities.

“The new depot has been designed to provide the safest working environment for our people and customers,” Byrne says.

“We’ve purposely limited the interactions between pedestrians and forklifts, customer collections will now be separated from operations, and operational traffic will flow in one direction, which means no reversing and less risk.”

Byrne said the site at Arundel on the Gold Coast had been chosen to provide the optimal location to minimise distance and time travelled between the depot and customers – noting the site had “immediate” access to major arterial routes throughout southeast Queensland.

“We have a strong vision for Queensland and Toll is making a substantial investment on the Gold Coast with this new state of the art facility,” Byrne says.
