Steady performance in freight for Qantas
Freight adds to the profit mix for the company

Freight continues to perform a small but valuable and growing service to Qantas’ bottom line, its interim results show.

Qantas has seen its net first half profits rise 17.9 per cent on last year’s first half, on a revenue rise of less than a third of that.

The first half total of $607 million was nearly $100 million up on the previous period while revenue of $8.66 billion bested the previous year’s $8.18 billion by 5.8 per cent.

Net freight revenue, was up $24 million, or 6 per cent, to $440 million for the half.

That segment, formerly Qantas Freight, has been subsumed into the Qantas International arm and its operations are otherwise not examined separately.

The company would only say that "the freight business delivered a steady performance".
