Australia Post is looking to tap into pre-Christmas online shopping surge.

Australia Post has rolled out its free parcel delivery service to online shoppers across Australia starting today.

The service is available to members of its Shipster program who spend $25 or more with over 50 participating brands and stores.

Until now, the service, which started in October, was available in metropolitan Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

In an attempt to make the scheme more attractive to online shoppers, the company has waived its initial $9.95 joining fee for new sign-ups for up to two months.

Australia Post chief customer officer Christine Corbett says the service offering is designed to appeal to online buyers during the pre-Christmas shopping rush.

"Shipster has really taken off with our customers who love to shop online, so we are incredibly excited to extend this to every household in time for Christmas," Corbett says.

"Regional Australians are regular online shoppers, with these households each receiving about nine parcels per year.

"Online shopping makes it easier to access the brands and products they love but don't have locally, so no matter where you are, you can shop when you like and where you like without the hassle.

"This means we're delivering free shipping to 11.6 million delivery points in Australia, so our hard working posties and drivers will be working around the clock to make this Christmas extra special.

"All you need to do is spend $25 and over to unlock free shipping from more than 50 of Australia's biggest and most-loved retailers, it is that easy."
