CouriersPlease opens two major depots

Package delivery firm adds new facilities to its network to accommodate growing parcel volumes

Parcel delivery company CouriersPlease (CP) has opened two new logistics facilities to accommodate growing e-commerce traffic.

The new Perth and Melbourne facilities are also expected to add new jobs in departments including network, franchises, customer experience and administration.

The Victoria-based $440 million Drystone Industrial Estate logistics hub is a new edition to CP’s network.

Developed by Charter Hall Group and Commercial and Industrial Property, Drystone Industrial Estate is home to other distribution centres for major Australian companies, including Kmart, The Reject Shop and Rand.

The Truganina site replaces CP’s Port Melbourne depot, and with its existing Mulgrave facility, will provide the business with complete east-west coverage of Melbourne.

The total 29,000 square metres site can accommodate over 160 courier vehicles, with additional bay spaces allocated to accommodate future growth.

“CP has relocated our logistics facilities in major capital cities in order to accommodate the significant growth in the volume of parcels moving throughout our network,” CP CEO Mark McGinley says.

“Our commitment in moving to the west of Melbourne has stemmed from it being a massive growth corridor with some of the highest rates of online shopping in the country.

CP recently opened another new facility in WA, located in the inner south-eastern Perth suburb of Welshpool.

The 3,443 square metre warehouse, with additional 2,000 square metres available space for future expansion, the logistics facility will allow improved access directly into the CBD and both north and south of the city.

“Our new Welshpool depot gives us greater coverage of the city and a larger warehouse space for logistics operations, allowing us to bring a better service to our customers,” McGinley says.

“With room for future expansion, we hope to bring more jobs and opportunities to the local community.”

In September last year, CP opened the relocated Brisbane depot in Salisbury.

A new Adelaide depot is set to open in Marleston later this year.
