Ports leader Hussey dies in vacation accident

Former WA ports authority chairman had held a multitude of posts

Roger Hussey, one of Western Australia’s more talented executives and the inaugural chairman of the Southern Ports Authority, has died in Thailand.

News reports from Phuket state Hussey fell to his death in a parasailing accident.

A noted businessman and founder of the Century Holdings Group, he chaired the Southern Ports Authority board on its formation three years ago and, more recently, was deputy chair of Langate, the former Department of Land Information, which maintains the official register of land ownership and survey information.

Beyond business, Hussey had held the position of chairman of various government and community bodies, such as Princess Margaret Children’s Hospital, Telethon Child Health Research Institute, AgWest Development, TAB (WA) and Bali Eye Foundation.

Landgate says in a statement: “He served the West Australian community in many ways — as a businessman, board member and advocate for a variety of community causes.

“We will miss his deep thinking, willingness to challenge conventional views, and passion for growing our business.”
