Safety to the fore as CILTA winners named

Physical, radio and technology solutions gain awards gongs

Muscat Trailers, the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator and NFA Innovations were amongst the road transport-related winners at the Chartered Institute of Logistics Australia (CILTA) awards annual Awards for Excellence.

Muscat Trailers co-founder Maurice Azzopardi says the recognition validated the hard work over two generations put into the Muscat Trailers business now headed by his son, CEO Troy Azzopardi.

The award focused on the Muscat Trailers bitumen trailer.

“This massive, often unnoticed transport task has been both expensive and dangerous, without tankers spraying bitumen on to blue metal delivered by rigid tippers,” CILTA notes.

“The Muscat bitumen trailer unloads some 30 tonnes of hot … bitumen safely in less than 60 seconds.”

Apart from the win for its AccessCONNECT Program, the NHVR was also shortlisted twice.

“This recognition as winner shows the NHVR’s work is delivering benefits for heavy vehicle safety and productivity,” NHVR CEO Sal Petroccitto says.

“The AccessCONNECT Program delivered a new Customer Portal solution which is now used by more than 95 per cent of the NHVR’s permit customers, processing more than 7,000 permit applications.

“We have spent time working closely with the heavy vehicle industry to understand what they needed and developed a solution that will deliver time savings and efficiencies to customers.

“It’s a great achievement – well done to all involved.”

NFA Innovations picked up the Safety award for its Pixie ‘Radio Break-in technology’ level crossing solution.

The technology, that warns trains and vehicles of their proximity at level-crossings but has other applications, was tested three years ago in Queensland and Victoria last year and has garnered international attention.
