Calfas stands in as Cleary resigns from NSW Ports

Outgoing CEO said to be looking to other professional challenges and career aspirations

NSW Ports will be controlled by Marika Calfas from next Thursday as it looks for a new CEO to replace Stephen Cleary.

Cleary’s impressive resume, as former StarTrack Express CEO, freight executive manager at Qantas and senor roles with Australian air Express and Elders will bolster his future aspirations.

NSW Ports chairman Paul McClintock praised Cleary’s performance as the entity moved from a publicly owned operation to private lease over more than two years.

“Through the appointment of Stephen Cleary, we found the qualities and drive required to achieve these objectives,” McClintock says.

“Having now successfully completed this transition, Stephen has, however, recently elected to resign to pursue other professional challenges and career aspirations.

“Stephen’s leadership and successes have been reinforced by the highly capable executive team that he has managed.”

Calfas, presently executive general manager – strategy, planning and infrastructure at NSW Ports, is a seasoned ports executive having been general manager planning for Sydney Ports Corporation, with which she was involved in the $1 billion Port Botany Expansion development project.
