SCT Logistics seals deal on new freight hub in Victoria

Rail operator will increase freight movements between Melbourne and Brisbane.

SCT Logistics will move ahead with the development of a new rail freight hub in regional Victoria after striking a deal with the Victorian Government.

The Victorian Government says it has secured a $39 million investment from Australia’s largest private rail operator to support the expansion of its operations in Victoria.

The deal includes at least $22 million for investment in the freight hub at Logic Estate near Wodonga. The project is expected to generate 210 new jobs – 118 in Wodonga – and aid SCT’s freight movements between Melbourne and Brisbane.

“The new hub will create a significant number of new jobs, benefiting local communities in and around Wodonga for years to come,” Victorian regional development minister Jaala Pulford says.

The Government says the new freight facility will provide cost effective freight to and from Victoria’s north east, helping to increase the competitiveness of exports from regional Victoria.

It adds that the terminal will likely to generate more warehousing and distribution investment at Logic as Victoria’s freight task grows.

SCT earlier this year gained Wodonga Council approval to develop land for a warehouse and rail siding.

“By working with local government to secure this investment, the Labor government is driving job creation and economic growth in regional Victoria,” Pulford says.
