Toyota Material Handling (TMH) is celebrating a dual success for its 8-Series forklift range.

The vehicle gained a Good Design Award in Japan in what TMH describes as that country’s "only design evaluation and commendation award, and is contested by companies and designers from around the world".

Meanwhile, in Europe, it received a ‘special mention’ in the German Design Award 2015, with TMH saying it is the first forklift to be so recognised.

"Earlier this year, Toyota Material Handling Australia (TMHA) launched the new 8-Series 3.5 to 8-tonne range, extending its industry-leading forklift safety, fuel-saving and ergonomic features to all its internal combustion forklifts up to 8-tonne capacity," the manufacturer’s local arm says.

"Highlights of the range include a new 65kW electronic fuel injection-equipped 3.7-litre LPG engine offering fuel savings of up to 20 per cent compared with the superseded model.

"Key safety features include Toyota's exclusive System of Active Stability, which helps reduce the likelihood of lateral or longitudinal roll-overs.

"Other features of the Toyota 8-Series include a redesigned chassis with fully stamped steel plate construction and ergonomic improvements like increased floor space and a larger step."
