Ward named GM of DP World, Perth

Newly-structured position adds responsibility for DP World along with his existing leadership of the acquired AWH operations

Ward named GM of DP World, Perth
John Ward.

John Ward, the incumbent general manager of AWH in Western Australia, has been appointed to an expanded role that also covers DP World operations in the state.

The increased responsibility comes after DP World bought the AWH business recently.

The two companies are expected to work side by side, with no plans to merge.

Ward will start in the job officially on November 24, reporting to both AWH CEO Craig Finlay and DP World chief operating officer Mark Hulme.

Both Finlay and DP World Australia managing director Paul Scurrah say the appointment is a valuable one across the partnership.

"We are delighted that a person of John’s calibre has agreed to lead and drive growth for DP World Australia’s Fremantle Port business and AWH’s operations," they say in a joint statement.

"With his many years of experience leading AWH in Western Australia, we are very confident that John will quickly have a positive impact and make a strong contribution to the future success of the Fremantle Terminal.

"The new structure will leverage growth opportunities and synergies for both organisations and signifies the commitment of DP World Australia and AWH to providing extended supply chain solutions to importers, exporters and shipping lines."

Ward first joined Elders in 1995, coming in as WA state wool manager. He was transferred to the Elders-Dalgety joint venture AWH when it was established in 1998 as its general manager.
