Freightliner sets Columbia’s sights on mining industry

Columbia CL112 to be aimed at fulfilling ancillary tasks around mines

With Freightliner acknowledging the traditionally vocational calling of the Columbia CL112, an effort is now underway to broaden its appeal.

With that in mind, the US brand is looking to tasks that the mining industry might usefully put it to, with water carting one of those nominated.

“The CL112 is a diverse model and can be supported in remote conditions and is well suited to water cart tasks in the Australian mining industry,” Freightliner Australia senior manager Rodney West says.

“With class leading low chassis tare weight providing great capacity, a proven robust American driveline and top to bottom reliability, the CL112 has been designed for quick and simple maintenance whilst providing drivers with a modern, comfortable and safe place to spend their time.

“We are confident the Columbia will be a great asset to any company.”

The Columbia CL112 has a 400hp (294kW) Cummins ISLe5 engine, and comes with the choice of an Eaton Manual or Ultrashift AMT, or an Allison 3000 or 4500 automatic transmission.

It also comes in either 6×4, 8×4 or 10×4 axle configurations.
