Toll Group has opened a new freight depot in Brisbane’s Karratha today.

The $86 million facility was launched by Queensland Premier Campbell Newman.

The 43,600 square metre facility is custom built on a 13-hectare site and is the new national head office for Toll NQX.

It also houses Toll’s fleet services and contract logistics businesses.

Toll Group Divisional Director Mal Grimmond says the depot was designed to provide a safe working environment.

"We’ve purposely limited the interactions between pedestrians and forklifts as much as possible and our unprecedented 2,000 square metre dedicated heavy vehicle workshop highlights the importance Toll places on the safety of its truck fleet, the safety of the people who drive them and the safety of the communities they drive through," Grimmond says.

"It is Toll’s willingness and ability to invest in facilities like this that makes it the industry leader in safety.

"As the largest transport company in Australia, we also have a role to play in helping educate people to share the road more safety and we take this responsibility extremely seriously."
