Barry O’Farrell’s resignation as New South Wales Premier has led to speculation that Transport Minister Gladys Berejiklian may be in line for a tilt at the top job.

The other spoken of as a serious contender is Treasurer Mike Baird.

Whatever the outcome, a Cabinet reshuffle is almost certain that would likely break up her ministerial partnership with Roads and Ports Minister Duncan Gay that has been seen as successful.

O’Farrell resigned after putting up a robust defence of his position at the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) about the receipt of an expensive bottle of wine that continued yesterday.

"Contrary to some media commentary following my evidence at the ICAC today, proof has not been presented that a bottle of 1959 Grange was ever delivered to my house," he stated.

But today he was gone after proof did emerge in the form of a handwritten thank you note.
