Packaging company Loscam has introduced a new foldable plastic crate for the New Zealand fruit and vegetable supply chain.

A Loscam statement says Loscam’s Active Lock foldable, returnable plastic crate (RPC) improves efficiency in transport, product protection and staff ergonomics.

Loscam’s crate design and production partner, Polymer Logistics, has introduced the Active Lock crate to the global produce sector in response to market needs.

Loscam Business Development Group Head David Edwards says Loscam and Polymer understand the user issues experienced with foldable crates.

"High damage rates and excessive force used by staff to collapse the crates are problematic," Edwards says.

"Also the reliance on the current nestable crates in New Zealand and the inefficiencies this causes in transport and in load unitisation have created an opportunity for the Loscam crate to reduce costs and improve handling."

The introduction of the foldable crate will add to Loscam’s growing suite of products in New Zealand, which include a Trans Tasman pallet transfer system and four-way entry wooden pallet.

Loscam New Zealand Business Manager Nick Trask says it's pleasing when a solution helps alleviate entrenched supply chain problems to improve the way product is ‘moved, stored and protected in a cost effective, safe and environmentally sound way’.
