Hardware Distributor Romak is fully automating its storage and distribution functions to increase warehouse efficiency.

The company is currently installing the enterprise version of Microlistics’ ISIS warehouse management system (WMS) at its new distribution centre
in Keysborough, Victoria.

With offices in Hong Kong, Taiwan and China, the ROMAK business is experiencing significant growth in the Australian hardware market.

Romak supplies approximately 5000 different products to the hardware industry so the company is keen
to ensure inventory accuracy and reduce the hidden costs associated with traditional picking and stock control.

“We needed to upgrade all of our business systems to cater for our significant growth strategy
so decided on the Microsoft NAV system for our financial and administration requirements,” says ROMAK Hardware Distributors’ Eric Wu.

“We chose the Microlistics ISIS WMS after reviewing a number of alternative systems,” Wu says.

Being an importer of industrial products, Wu says Romak
requires the capability of a leading edge warehouse management system to control all
operations from receipt of goods until products are shipped to the many retailers
the company
deals with.

“We receive many containers per week at the Keysborough facility,” he explains.

“The ISIS audit trail will ensure we have real time visibility of inventory and our interface to the NAV system means our purchasing department is on top of stock velocity at all times.”

“We will see immediate improvements in our unloading and receiving processes with real time interfacing of stock to our NAV system,” Wu adds.

“This will allow us to cross dock products for urgent orders without the need to put away before picking for despatch.”

Like many in his industry, Wu confirms customers are becoming more demanding and requesting store ready pallets be shipped.

“ISIS will enable us to provide this capability in an efficient cost effective manner,”
he says.

“It is an exciting time for the Romak business and we are looking forward to developing a long term partnership with Microlistics.”

In designing ISIS, Microlistics Managing Director Mark Dawson says care was taken to ensure all typical warehousing operations are supported in a comprehensive, yet easy-to-install, easy-to-use Warehouse Management System.

“With a standard interface module that enables seamless integration with a customer’s business system, ISIS ensures the advanced functionality of a Best-of-Breed Warehouse Management System (WMS) while maintaining smooth communication with the host system,” Dawson says.

“As materials handling equipment continues to develop and improve, ISIS ensures your investment in such technology is fully supported.”
