Toll selects Terberg 6x4 yard tractor

Toll Intermodal found Terberg’s extensive range of heavy duty Yard Tractors (YT) the right application in its Western Australian distribution centre.

Specifically, the transport and logistics giant required low axle weights and an environmentally friendly, safe yard tractor
so
selected the Terberg YT220 6x4 with a EURO 5 compliant engine.

In February, Toll took delivery of the first Terberg 6x4 yard tractor in Australia at its new ‘state of the art’ distribution centre at Kewdale in Perth, WA.

It is
also the first yard tractor of its type in Australia to be equipped with a EURO 5 compliant engine.

The 6x4 configuration effectively delivers lower axle loads and ground bearing pressure compared to the more popular 4x2 twin axle models.

According to Toll Intermodal WA State Manager Andrew Brown the decision to specify the 6x4 configuration was influenced by the need to minimise potential damage to the Kewdale terminal pavement.

"We also wanted toallow the yard tractor unrestricted access throughout the terminal and connecting roads when handling laden trailers," Brown says.

Toll Intermodal also specified the option of the EURO 5 compliant Cummins ISB 162kW six cylinder diesel engine whose impressive environment credentials are proudly promoted on the cab of the Terberg YT220 6x4 at Kewdale.

Akin to the WA decision, Toll Intermodal in Queensland also commissioned a Terberg YT220 6x4 yard tractor for operation at its distribution centre in Tennyson, a suburb of Brisbane, where it will handle both ‘on highway’ and site specific trailer sets of up to three units at a time.
