Supply chain coordinators and transport managers are among
the
most sought professionals
in the transport and logistics sector
this year.

Recruitment firm Hays’ first quarterly report for 2013
shows supply chain coordinators
able to
deal with vendors, documentation and customer service are still sought after.

The report shows experience in large Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems are also seen as core requirements.

According to the report, many transport managers are leaving the logistics sector to further their careers in areas such as warehousing, supply chain and freight forwarding.

This is also creating demand for transport managers,
the report says.

Hays Logistics Senior Regional Director Tim James says while skills in
the areas 'are in hot demand', employers remain cautious about hiring candidates who have moved around often.

He says businesses are also being very specific about their requirements and more demanding about core and soft skills.

"Employers want candidates with a proven and stable background, and some are willing to wait to find the exact match. In terms of long-term solutions some employers are interested in candidates that can take a step up to fill a role rather than have someone more senior take a step back," James says.

Other positions in demand include experienced MC Drivers, project and account managers, demand planners and qualified reach stackers.

The report
says few people have the license and experience to work in reach stacking, a high risk position.

The report also says
3PL is increasing and becoming
a way forward for businesses, fuelling the demand for account managers.

According to Hays, businesses need to provide employees with the opportunity to develop new skills through training courses.
