QR National streamlines freight

The days of hand-written consignment notes finally over as QR National unveils $1.5 million new freight management system

May 8, 2012

Rail haulage provider QR National has unveiled a $1.5 million new freight management system to maximise efficiency in freight movement operations.

Vice President Intermodal Hans Anneveldt says the investment was spent developing the new freight management system and the company expects it will result in smoother processes right across the supply chain.

“This is essentially about getting better results for the customer and a big part of it is the new online web portal which will mean better information and tracking for customers,” Anneveldt says.

“We have been building on our solid national intermodal freight business and this will enable us to grow further through better management of customer freight requirements.”

Anneveldt adds the old days of handwritten consignment notes are finally over.

“By getting this capability online, you avoid the need for lengthy phone waiting and frustration,” he says.

“This will lead to capacity increases and the ability for us to sell to targeted customers.

“It will also mean improved accuracy in information transfer for invoicing and other reporting and allow customers to track their freight every step of the way along its journey.”

Features of the new system:

  • Consignment track and trace capabilities
  • Electronic customer interfaces for booking high volume consignments
  • Web portal access for all other customer bookings
  • Automatic performance reporting such as DIFOT
  • Emailed quotes, invoices and reports
