DB Schenker has the keys for its brand new Distribution Centre (DC) in Sydney’s west.

The logistics services provider says the new Erskine Park facility represents its strategy of expanding warehousing footprint in Australia.

Director Logistics and Domestic Transport Prem Ramachandran tells SupplyChain Review the 21,000 square metre DC will hold close to 20 thousand pallet positions.

Fitted out by internal Schenker experts, the facility is designed for maximum throughput capability, security and safety.

DB Schenker signed a seven-year lease in April for the Lenore Drive property with industrial property group Dexus who constructed the facility to Schenker’s requirements.

Ramachandran says the development of the new
DC will add to the company’s existing network of five DCs in Sydney and 16 facilities Australia-wide, representing 160,000 square meters of operations.

"The new DC in Erskine Park is part of DB Schenker’s expansion strategy in Australia, which in turn is part of a global alignment for growth in the Asia Pacific region," Ramachandran says.

"As part of the Asia Pacific, Australia is a focus area and a leading region for Schenker’s market."

A multi-user facility, Ramachandran says the DC has been designed specifically two key customers, who he preferred not to name for privacy reasons.

"The space is now 100 percent filled in terms of client use," he says.

"The facility will utilise DB Schenker’s end to end solution, knitted together by state of the art communication systems which allow the tracking of orders from factories in Asia, through the customs processes in Australia, to warehouse locations and on to clients.

"All new Schenker DCs include plug and play technologies for different systems and different customers backed up with Schenker’s own Warehouse Management System to ensure flexibility."

The facility will also employ low emission lighting and re-chargable electric forklifts.

"We aim for a clean, tidy environment to ensure the health and safety of our for employees," Ramachandran says.

"DB Schenker develops supply chain solutions that are truly end to end and we add value by supporting customers through our international networks and domestic distribution capabilities in that space."

The Erskine Park facility will be on line June 27 and subsequently filled by August this year.

DB Schenker customers include some of the world’s biggest names in computers and mobile devices, white and brown goods as well as healthcare and resources equipment and products.
