Leading Australasian tank manufacturer the Tasman Tank Company has expanded its range of storage solutions to include bolted steel silos for a wide range of dry bulk materials.

The company – which is already a leading Australasian liquid storage company – says typical applications for the RTP (rolled, tapered panel) dry bulk storage silos include storing minerals, chemicals, limestone, lime, coal, cement, aggregates, foods, plastic resins, wood waste and meal.

Through its affiliated group company, US-based Tank Connection, a global leader in storage solutions and containment, the Tasman Tank Company is able to provide a complete storage system package including auxiliary equipment, fill and discharge equipment, process equipment, foundation design and supply, weigh scales, automated controls and more.

Tasman Tank Company Major Project Sales Manager David Baker says the company can now cover all dry bulk storage demands for Australia and New Zealand.

"Working with our affiliated company, we have the technology, the know-how and the equipment needed to store any type of dry bulk material," Baker says.

"Bolted tanks have steadily overtaken alternatives because they are less expensive to build in the first place, they are cheaper and easier to maintain and typically outlast many alternative materials anyway," he says.

The interior of the tanks feature the Fusion 5000 FBE (fusion bond epoxy) tank lining system, which Baker says outperforms all bolted tank linings on offer.

"The system features superior flow promotion qualities coupled with superior abrasion resistant qualities," he explains.

The exterior of the tanks feature the protective properties of Fusion 5000 FBE epoxy powder fused to substrate with a fused topcoat of Ext Fusion SDP (super durable polyester).

"The coating features unmatched exterior performance in dry bulk applications," Baker says.

"For cement storage systems, for example, we can provide the most cost efficient approach for a complete storage and truck loading facility.

"In terms of
coal storage, we can provide functional mass flow or expanded flow discharge systems to prevent material bridging inside the silo and provide reliable material flow.

"Our affiliated group leads the industry in turnkey storage systems for limestone, lime, hydrated lime, pebble lime and quicklime applications," he says.

"For mineral storage applications, we can minimise and eliminate the problems of yesterday by prescribing the right storage system to interface with an existing or new material handling system."

According o Baker, hopper gravity discharge is available in a variety of designs including skirted tanks, drive-through skirted tanks, tanks on structures, tanks on load cells and tanks elevated on structural legs.

"One of the biggest advantages of the bolted RTP dry bulk storage silos is the fact they can be constructed in the field in less than half the time required for field-weld construction," he says.

"With a welded tank for example, you need to bring in large cylindrical sections and weld them on site, whereas all our panels are easily managed."

Baker says Occupational Health and Safety on the work site is another major consideration with the modular bolted steel systems.

"Everything is hydraulically jacked from the floor up as we build the tank, including the tank’s roof is built at ground level," he says.

"Unlike other storage tank systems, we don’t have to build scaffolding, so there is minimal disturbance to the rest of the building as far as construction is concerned."
