The multi-million dollar fleet of GR George will be auctioned on April 7 after the well-known and respected road transporter was placed into liquidation.
In an advertisement in today’s The Courier-Mail, liquidators David Stimpson and Paul Sweeney of SV Partners have put on the auction block 45 prime movers – including 30 Volvos and 10 Kenworths – as well as 51 trailers.
The auction is at the request of the corporate insolvency specialist and “various financiers”.
Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ASIC) records indicate the company was placed under external administration in late February or early March.
Founded in 1990 by Graham George, the Brisbane-based business grew from a small transport business, into a significant service provider in the refrigerated transport industry, servicing the distribution routes throughout the east coast of Australia as well as Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia.
It acquired Whites Westrans, a general freight carrier based on Orange, NSW, in August 2003.
Customers included Woolworths, Nestle, Speedibake, Visy, Bindaree Beef, Northern Co-operative Meat Company, George Weston Foods, Manassen Fine Foods, Perkins Gulf Freight Services and Comgroup.
Founder Graham George is a well known and respected member of the road transport industry, previously serving as a board member and vice president of NatRoad.
