Toyota continues to lead its rivals in the forklift sector, with the company’s market share and profits propelling it to the top of the rankings.

German publications Logistik Journal and DNF both put the Japanese company at the top of their lists for the seventh time, which is based on results for the fiscal year ending on March 31.

Toyota’s global material handling operations are reported to be valued at over € 4.5 billion, which gives it a worldwide market share of more than 10 percent, the largest of any company in the industry.

The organisation was also voted number 31 in Fortune Magazine’s 2008 list of the world’s most admired companies and as number 479 in the same publication’s list of the worlds 500 largest companies.

In Australia, Toyota Material Handling leads the market in counter balance forklift trucks with a 32.7 percent market share.

Company President Steve Harper says his firm deserves the recognition.

“Toyota Industries Corporation (TICO) is the industry leader in its level of investment in research and development,” Harper says.

He also says the Toyota Production System ensures the organisation maintains its industry leading reputation for “reliability, quality and safety”.
