Qantas has confirmed it will not cut back on its freight services between New Zealand and Australia despite a plan to increase the number of Boeing 737 passenger flights over the Tasman.
The increase in passenger services currently means changes must be made to the existing freight services, something Stephen Cleary Qantas Group General Manager for Qantas Freight says will be done.
The changes in passenger services means more than 140 trans-Tasman return services each week between Australia and Auckland, Christchurch, Wellington and Queenstown will now take place.
“Qantas is increasing the frequency of B737 passenger services across the Tasman. As a result, there will be some changes to wide body freight capacity from 10 June,” Cleary says.
Although Qantas will end its domestic New Zealand services and replace them with Jetstar flights, Cleary highlighted the importance of the organisation’s New Zealand market.
“As demonstrated with the recent addition of a B747 freighter service between the US, New Zealand and Australia, we are fully committed to meeting the needs of the New Zealand market and to continuing our long and valued relationships with our customers,” says Cleary.
