Manhattan teams up with IBM to help retail inventory orders

Supply chain optimisation provider Manhattan Associates’ Distributed Order Management (DOM) solution has been integrated with Web Sphere Commerce from international computer software giant IBM.

The DOM solution provides system users a global view of inventory across suppliers, distributors, distribution centres and stores to help reduce the work involved in filling multiple inventory orders.

The company says by integrating DOM with IBM software, retailers can take advantage of cross-channel marketing and selling as well as fulfilling orders from a lengthy supply network spanning distribution centres, stores, suppliers and distributors.

The DOM solution is also certified for the IBM Retail Integration Framework which allows communication between services, information sources and business processes to fuse.

Manhattan Associates says this allows web customers and call centre agents a view of all available inventories, meaning promised as well as reserved orders can be carried out in real time.

IBM Global Retail Industry General Manager Karen Lowe says leading retailers are aiming to enable cross channel processes in order to create “a business with a business brand and not a channel inside a retail brand.”

“Manhattan’s DOM enables this by handling complex inventory management, value added service provision and order fulfilment processes across multiple channels,” Lowe says.

Manhattan Associates expects customer service strategies to be implemented faster due to DOM’s integration with IBM software.
