More than 40 percent of supply chain and procurement professionals like their current job, but more than half are considering other positions.

A new report on the job market from Hudson has sampled logistics professionals to provide an insight into the mindset and behaviours of employees.

An online survey of 150 supply chain and procurement professionals in Australia and New Zealand found 41 percent are satisfied with their current job.

But 15 percent are actively seeking work, while 38 percent are passively looking for other positions. Those figures were similar to other industries.

Logistics professionals rated work/life balance and promotional opportunities as the two main ‘must haves’ when evaluating a new opportunity.

They are the heaviest users of newspapers throughout the job search process, with 90 percent using newspapers as a source at some point, but more than half also employed the internet for job searches.

Recruitment companies were employed by 62 percent of respondents.

While job advertisements provide adequate information, respondents wanted more information on training, promotion and advancement opportunities, salary range, travel opportunities and additional benefits.

Hudson says low unemployment, the skills shortage, a growing economy and international interest in employees are four factors contributing to an intensely competitive labour market.
