EDITORIAL: Innovation driving Linfox as provider of the future

Linfox is calling it the biggest contract in its 52-year history: a major deal with Coles in New South Wales

Linfox is calling it the biggest contract in its 52-year history: a major deal with Coles in New South Wales and Victoria that will substantially expand its distribution business with the retailer.

Linfox CEO Michael Byrne praises the company’s team and its history of delivering good on-time performance for winning the new work. But its clear the company’s future plans, rather than its past performance, sealed the deal.

Linfox is driving significant innovation into its supply chain operations. Technological advancements in track and trace, and more flexible and efficient delivery processes, have the company leading the field in a quickly changing retail logistics landscape.

The company is rolling out an online monitoring system to provide complete visibility of deliveries in real-time. Automated SMS store alerts will also help Coles optimise their stores’ resources, Byrne says.

And what Linfox calls next-generation roll cage restraints will enable Linfox vehicles to provide primary and secondary freight, boosting supply chain efficiencies.

That, along with a comprehensive safety program and big steps in environmental management, have set up Lindsay Fox’s trucking empire into a supply chain solutions provide of the future. And demonstrated the level of innovation logistics providers will need to catch up.
