International logistics companies Agility, TNT and UPS have joined international efforts to expedite food supplies to victims of recent natural disasters in South East Asia.
The companies are assisting the World Food Program (WFP) deliver food to hundreds of thousands of people in the flood-ravaged Philippines and earthquake affected Pandang region of Indonesia.
The companies work together in an initiative called Logisitics Emergency Teams (LETs) and implement their knowledge of warehouse management and transport capabilities to ensure the WFP’s response is quicker and more effective.
The companies have donated trucks and warehousing resources as well as logistics staff and coordination services.
All staff deployed by the companies have augmented WFP’s response and are not paid.
WFP Deputy Regional Director for Asia Peter French says the expertise and resources provided by the companies are “invaluable”.
“The LETs initiative is an important component of our overall emergency response strategy and its generous contribution to these two natural disasters has been a significant boost to our response,” French says.
