The $500m Mapletree Logistics Park to be built over 36 hectares
Logan City Council has granted approval for an industrial development it describes as one of the biggest in the city’s history.
The $500 million Mapletree Logistics Park – Crestmead, an industrial park of nine warehouses, will be built on 36 hectares of the new $1.5 billion Crestmead Logistics Estate launched by council last year.
The development will deliver about 200,000 square metres of warehousing and office space and is expected to include buildings ranging in size from 5,000sqm up to possibly 100,000 square metres.
City of Logan mayor Darren Power says the project ia a strong endorsement for investment in the city.
“This project is a game-changer, not just for the City of Logan, but all of South East Queensland.
“Despite the setbacks of last year, this project sends a clear message that Logan is again open for business and a new hub for jobs and investment.”
Plans were recently approved for a logistics precinct in NSW’s Kemps Creek
Developer Mapletree Group CEO Hiew Yoon Khong says the organisation had a strong conviction on the growth prospects of Australia’s logistics real estate sector.
“Mapletree Logistics Park – Crestmead’s excellent connectivity to key transportation nodes will provide companies with a high-quality space in a strategic location,” Hiew says.
The Mapletree development was approved under council’s RiskSmart approval process; subject to a comprehensive pre-application review prior to the application being formally lodged and approved by council and the state government.
The Crestmead Logistics Estate was launched by council in August last year and will be rolled out over the next five years, eventually delivering 650,000 sq m of warehousing, business, logistics and manufacturing space.
Crestmead Logistics Estate adds to an existing 367,000 sq m of commercial activity recently completed or planned in the City of Logan over the coming year, including DHL (19,000 sq m), Queensland Logistics Service (15,000 sq m), Ceva Logistics (21,000 sq m), Hutamaki and Phoenix Transport (25,000 sq m) and McPhee Transport (17,000sq m under construction).
