Local manufacturers are a good chance of picking up gongs this Friday night when the Australian International Design Awards are handed out.

Trailer manufacturer Freighter is well-placed with its latest incarnation of the curtainsider, the Ezi-Liner, which uses a combination of air-operated hooks to tighten and loosen the curtains.

Field trials show the new trailer can save up to 15 minutes per drop, or more if it is a fully laden B-Double, while drivers swear by the new system, rather than at it, which is what they do when they skin their knuckles on the existing buckles.

Other advantages to the new system include less RSI from constantly tensioning and releasing buckles, while the clean curtain offers a great opportunity to turn the trailer into a mobile billboard.

Despite only recently going into full scale production, the Ezi-Liner is attracting plenty of attention from operators, with K&S Group one of the first to put their money where their mouth is.

Also in line for a gong is Holden, who have put up the latest version of its workshop workhorse, the VE Ute, for consideration.

Obviously the Victorian-based car builder is fairly keen on taking home some sort of reward, particularly since it is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, but anyone who has driven one of the new model utes will attest it is significantly improved over its predecessors.
