Linfox in five point response on PageUp breach

Freight transport giant takes careful line on HR firm’s IT breech

Linfox has undertaken an initial five-step response to the data security breach affecting human resources IT services provider PageUp.

The list of companies and organisations that PageUp has dealings with is broad and also covers banks, retailers and government entities.

The difficulty for customers, Linfox and Australia Post included, is a lack of detail they have from PageUp.

“Linfox is assessing advice received by PageUp, a supplier that helps us process job applications, that they’ve experienced a system breach,” it says in a statement.

“We are among a number of large organisations that use PageUp.

“At this stage, PageUp is yet to inform Linfox of the nature of the system breach and if any personal information of applicants for Linfox roles has been compromised. Linfox is issuing this information based on the information we have available.

“Once we know the extent of the issue we will email all applicants whose applications have been submitted through PageUp to let them know how this issue may affect them.

“At this stage, PageUp has not confirmed that Linfox job applicants’ data has been compromised.”

Linfox then lays out the steps it has taken at this still early stage in order to “minimise any possible harm”:

  • brought together a cross-functional team to manage the issue
  • removed access to PageUp’s systems from our website
  • deactivated the PageUp system
  • sought advice from the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC)
  • contacted PageUp requesting further information surrounding the privacy impact of this incident

Linfox pledges to provide updates as new information becomes available.
