NSW Police to scrutinise motorists at level crossings in May and June to cut down on dangerous behaviour

Level crossings in New South Wales will be under close watch by police this month and next.
NSW Police will target dangerous behaviour at 3,800 crossings in May and June, with electronic roadside billboards placed to remind drivers of the need to act safely.
There were 112 collisions involving trains and vehicles recorded at level crossings in the past 10 years.
Acting Superintendent Greg Lynch says those caught disobeying road rules will receive three demerit points and a $397 fine.
“The dangers posed by failing to stop at a level crossing or queuing across a railway line are obvious, yet too many motorists seem willing to take the risk,” Lynch says.
“We want to prevent serious injuries and senseless deaths by educating motorists to be safe at level crossings.”
