LBRCA keen to make rollover prevention program progress

Heavy Vehicle Safety Initiative recipient to offer free advice Australia-wide

The Livestock Bulk and Rural Carriers Association (LBRCA) of New South Wales has hailed a grant for its Heavy Vehicle Rollover Prevention Program (HVRPP).

The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator’s (NHVR) Heavy Vehicle Safety Initiative (HVSI) round 6 funding is one of 28 successful heavy vehicle safety initiatives sharing $5.2 million.

It will support development of a “comprehensive and free online industry training program aimed at preventing heavy vehicle rollovers and crashes within the Australian bulk carrier industry to prevent loss of life or serious injury in our transport operations”.

The program will be accessible and free of charge to all transport stakeholders nationally.

LBRCA chief operating officer Bec Coleman said the HVSI funding would enable LBRCA to deliver the HVRPP, and thereby improve heavy vehicle safety for drivers, operators, and the supply chain.

“This industry transport primary industry products to both domestic and export markets and typically, these products are varied and are often high centre-of-gravity and unstable loads,” Coleman added.

“These loads combined with challenging roads and conditions make hauling these products high risk compared to most freight journeys in Australia.

“The LBRCA Heavy Vehicle Rollover Prevention Program aims to ensure drivers undertaking this task have a high level of training, understanding and professionalism.”

NHVR CEO Sal Petroccitto said the HVSI program supported key initiatives that deliver tangible safety improvements for the heavy vehicle industry and all road users.

“The grants enable the NHVR, local governments, industry and other stakeholders to develop innovative solutions to achieve a shared goal of safer drivers, safer vehicles and safer road use for all Australians,” Petroccitto noted.

“I look forward to working with LBRCA to deliver the Heavy Vehicle Rollover Prevention Program and improve road safety for everyone.”
