Kenworth setting pace in new truck sales data

Kenworth’s total sale numbers remain competitive with those of manufacturers operating in all three major segments, despite only selling heavy-duty trucks

March has represented another strong month of sales for Kenworth according to the latest T-Mark Data released by the Truck Industry Council, with the manufacturer once again out-selling all others in the heavy-duty category and selling the fourth-highest number of trucks overall, despite only operating in the single category.

Kenworth’s 302 total heavy-duty trucks sold exceeded all other operators in the sector, with Isuzu (249) and Volvo’s (238) the only other manufacturers to reach triple figures in the segment.

The impending launch of Isuzu’s new range has not slowed down its current sales, as it once again cleared a total of 1000 vehicles sold over the course of the month.

The 1107 sales exceeded its total of 1029 sales in the month of February, however it has achieved a lower portion of market share due to increasing sales across the board.

Its 26.8 per cent market share for March still dwarfs its closest competitors though, with Hino (8.8 per cent), Fuso (7.6 per cent), Kenworth (7.3 per cent) and Volvo (5.8 per cent) rounding out the top five.

Fiat continues to be a disruptor in the light-duty segment and has well and truly inserted itself amongst the typical big four sellers of Isuzu, Hino, Fuso and Iveco in the space.

Its 86 sales for March exceeded Hino’s 75, and Fiat’s year to date sales of 200 light-duty trucks sits just nine trucks behind Iveco’s total as at the end of March.

Iveco is making moves in the medium-duty truck segment though, with its 23 trucks sold in March smashing its previous seven sales in the segment across January and February combined.

Dennis Eagle and Western Star have also had strong months in the heavy-duty segment when compared to their January and February sales.

Dennis Eagle’s 12 heavy duty trucks has boosted its YTD total to 18 sales, while Western Star’s 20 sales has increased its YTD total to 41.
