Northline says its new Katherine transport hub will serve a booming fruit and vegetable market
National freight company Northline says its new Katherine depot will provide a strategic connection for rail and line haul operations across the country.
The Adelaide-based provider opened the facility, situated at the Katherine rail terminal on the Victoria Highway, last week.
The site includes general and express freight facilities, with storage for cars and produce.
Northline hopes to capitalise on the thriving agricultural sector in the region. Reliable levels of rainfall have seen Katherine emerge as a major fruit and vegetable growing region.
Northline Chief Operating officer Phillip Taylor says Katherine provides an ideal collection and distribution point for the region.
He says the new depot gives customers confidence of cost-effective and reliable transport services.
“Our fully integrated national freight network gives customers the certainty that their product will get to the markets fast and fresh,” he says.
“We see the NT as an integral part of our freight logistics network.”
He says employing Kathering residents to run the depot combines local knowledge with access to an international freight network for customers.
