Kapsch TrafficCom technology wins ITS Award

Kapsch TrafficCom says the collaboration has shown how its technology makes Australia’s roads safer

Global transportation solutions company Kapsch TrafficCom has announced that a project it collaborated on, alongside Queensland’s department of transport and main roads (TMR), has won the Connected and Automated Vehicles award at the 2024 Intelligent Transport Systems Australia awards.

The technology utilises portable cooperative intelligent transport systems (C-ITS) roadside stations that Kapsch TrafficCom says has helped improved safety in Australian roadworks.

“I am proud of the team for delivering an award-winning project,” Kapsch TraffiCom APAC executive vice president Matthew McLeish says.

“The collaboration with TMR as well as other project partners was an excellent experience and shows how collaboration can push the industry forward, and how our C-ITS technology makes traffic safer for all stakeholders.”

Kapsch TrafficCom says ahead of the technology’s deployment on state road networks, TMR organised a C-ITS showcase in May 2023.

The showcase demonstrated multiple common roadworks scenarios that represent safety-critical connected vehicle use cases were demonstrated.

Queensland’s C-ITS deployment includes a production grade European compliant Security Credential Management System for message communications.

The technology is also similar to one that Kapsch TrafficCom is currently rolling out across highways in Germany where it uses roadside technology to make roadworks areas safer.
