New Department of Transport and Planning Secretary named

Former Victorian Commonwealth Games and COVID-19 response leader Jeroen Weimar will replace the outgoing Tim Younis in the role

Victorian Premier Jacinta Allen has named Jeroen Weimar as the state’s new Secretary of the Department of Transport and Planning, effective from January 27th, 2025.

Weimar holds strong experience in government-based transport roles and has previously been the CEO of VicRoads and spent almost six in a variety of positions at the Department of Transport, where he held the role of CEO for over four years.

He has also been Chair of the board at V-Line and has extensive experience in the UK transport sector.

“Jeroen has significant logistical and leadership experience in transport and planning,” a statement from the Premier reads.

“I look forward to the energy and enthusiasm he will bring to the task of leading teams that will deliver the ongoing transformation of the transport network,

“His extensive experience in logistics, public transport operations, service delivery and organisational reform has established him as an innovative leader.”

Weimar also led Victoria’s operational response to the COVID-19 pandemic, including testing and vaccination and was CEO of Victoria 2026, the organisation charged with planning the now moved Commonwealth Games.

Current Secretary Paul Younis announced he would step down from the role, which will now be taken up by Weimar, earlier this year.
