JAS Worldwide confirms “path forward” following cyberattack

JAS Worldwide is continuing its investigation into a recent ransomware attack, but says communications have not been disrupted

Global freight forwarder JAS Worldwide has confirmed recent technical disruptions experienced by the company were part of a recent ransomware attack but has commenced an investigation and planned a path forward through the issues.

The Atlanta-based company initially experienced issues which impacted its ability to operate and service its customers on Tuesday this week, with confirmation of the breach confirmed by the company on the same day.

The company the threat was detected early, and immediate measures were taken to secure the safety of customers’ data.

“Upon identification of the issue, we immediately secured our systems and commenced an investigation with assistance from external cybersecurity experts,” JAS Worldwide said in its initial statement.

“Based on our investigation to date, we have determined this cybersecurity attack was the result of ransomware.”

In ensuing updates on the matter over the course of the week, JAS Worldwide asserted it was working around the clock to restore and resume normal service to customers and “remain committed to transparency” to customers when releasing updates on the issue.

In its latest update, JAS Worldwide states channels with which to communicate with the company have remained uninterrupted.

“We are making significant progress in our recovery efforts,” it says.

“While we continue our thorough investigation and cautionary measures, we have a path forward. Our email system and website remain secure, so it is safe to communicate with our team as usual.

“We appreciate the tremendous support from our customers and the industry community.”

As of August 28, local time, JAS had successfully activated local contingencies to ensure serve urgent needs, and that the majority of the company’s contract logistics business and a few JAS entities had not been impacted.

JAS Logistics was founded in Italy in 1978 and is currently headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia.

It operates in over 100 countries across the globe and has had a presence in Australia for over 30 years. Its Australian headquarters in based in Sydney.

No criminal group has been reported as taking responsibility for the attacks at the time of writing.
