Jackson seeks government support for transport hub

Manning Valley Chamber of Commerce puts heat on NSW Government to agree to regional transport hub in Cundletown

A New South Wales town is in a dire need of a heavy vehicle transport hub to boost the local economy and manage the freight task, a business group says.

The Manning Valley Chamber of Commerce wants the NSW Government to commit to building a regional transport hub in Cundletown, which has already been given the tick of approval by the Federal Government.

Chamber of Commerce President Geoff Jackson believes the State Government is stalling on the $38.5 million project.

The Federal Government has set aside $10 million towards a new four-lane road bypassing Cundletown, including a new bridge across the Dawson River.

“It’s important for the region that it can be a place where heavy vehicles can come off the road,” Jackson says.

“It is also important for fatigue management. There is nowhere at the moment where drivers can actually change over.”

Jackson says the project will stimulate the economy and create jobs in the region.

“The Federal Government has the funds available to do it because they’ve already set aside the funds and all we’re looking for is a commitment so that the other parties can get the project under way,” he adds.
